PORTRAITURE
This portrait of Christina and Kevin was taken as part of a photo shoot with Harvest Fields Community Church in the Bronx. In designing a new look for the church website, they decided to do a portrait shoot of all the church leadership.
I think Christina and Kevin look great here.

Hurricane Irene Photo Shoot
PORTRAITURE
When Irene told me what day she was coming to NYC I knew we would not have great weather. In spite of that, we went out into midtown and got some amazing images.
In the middle of 8th Avenue outside of Penn Station
She took one of me with my umbrella.
We crossed the street and avoided getting hit by these taxi cabs.
Unfortunately this car splashed us and the photos shoot was over.
But we had a great time.

Women of Strength Portrait - Tashera Simmons
PORTRAITURE
About two months ago I got the call from 238 Beats regarding photographing Tashera Simmons for her Women of Strength Foundation Red Carpet Fundraiser. In light of all the images of Tashera on the internet with DMX, I wanted to find out who the real Tashera was.
Our phone conversation went very well. In that fifteen to twenty minute time span we were able to connect, joke around, and collaborate on the style, clothing and goal of the photo shoot.
By the time I arrived at her home and officially met her for the first time, we were already connected. This made the photo shoot so much easier.
The photo below truly portrays Tashera as a strong overcomer, who loves life and loves to have fun.

Empire State of Mind
I was born and raised in New York. Most of my life I lived in the borough of the Bronx. Presently I live in Manhattan.
The urban landscape has always been a part of my life. So it comes as no surprise that it is a major component of my work and art. It is part of how I see the world.
In the middle of the island of Manhattan there is this tall iconic edifice called the Empire State Building.
The photo above was taken with my jPhone at ground level about half a block away.
Welcome to the Empire State!

Photo Slideshow - Follow Oscar's B'day
EVENT
It was great to surprise Oscar with this slideshow of photos from his party. He did not expect it which made it all the more enjoyable when I posted it on his FB page.
I love the song you are about to hear. It fit perfectly with the crowd and the photos from the night.
Enjoy,
J

Urban Fine Art Fave - "Top Model"
PHOTOGRAPHY
Top Model - Lee-Ann and I had a great headshot photo session this month in the Bronx, NY. Needless to say she had plenty of outfits so we took photos both in the studio and outdoors. With Cari in tow as an assistant, the photographing was a great and fun time.
For this portrait I decided to contrast Lee-Ann's beautiful face with a dirtier urban/grunge texture.

Urban Fine Art Fave - "Lady Vanessa Gaga"
PHOTOGRAPHY
Lady Vanessa Gaga - Next month I will be photographing Vanessa's Sweet 16. In preparation for it, Vanessa asked if we could take some photos to be included on the invitation. She wanted to do a little something over the top a la Lady Gaga.
So we selected some Lady Gaga-esque outfits and ventured out for our photo shoot in the Bronx. We had a great time doing both indoor and outdoor photos.
I took this photo from the selection of shots and gave it that Urban Fine Art seasoning.

La La Leslie Sweet 16
PHOTOGRAPHY
It was such a pleasure to photograph Leslie's Sweet 16. The Melendez family is hilarious and very loving. And they know how to party.
Towards the end of the night I was both dancing and photographing people at the same time. I had a blast.
It is evident in this slideshow.

"MTA: Characters Welcome" - Tales From The Hood (JDP)
Welcome to another Tales From The Hood. Today we will meet a man I will call Vox.
This man was having a conversation with himself on the subway here in NYC.
Interestingly enough that wasn't the strangest part. Tucked underneath his left arm was an antique piece of audio equipment. Before iPods, before Walkmans, before boomboxes, dudes carried around their battery powered Vox cassette players. This one reminded me of the kind my granfather used to play old Spanish sermons back in the day.
The music coming out of the recorder was an old school country song with a singer that sounded like the Rappin Duke from "Duh-ha Duh-ha".
This is one of the many characters you will find on the subway trains in the Tales From The Hood.

Joseph Dominick Photography
The photo shoot in Central Park (New York City) went very well. The models were lovely and I have over 1,200 pictures of great portrait and wedding images.
The lovely assignment is now sifting through all those pictures to find the best of the best of the best (a la Will Smith in "Men in Black").
Photoshop Lightroom is a great software program which I highly recommend. I recently purchased it and it provides so much latitude in tweaking images as well as establishing metadata and keywords in the photography.
The portrait and wedding images from that shoot are amazing. Check out the sample portrait at my Flickr account here.

Joseph Dominick Photography
Okay, so I am really enjoying photography. Soon you will see me doing it on a whole other level via Joseph Dominick Photography. Very few people know, but later this month I will be photographing a whole day wedding and portrait photography shoot in New York City. I will post a few sneak pics in May.
In the meantime, check out this great pic I took of Lebron James and Jay Z at a recent Nets basketball game.
