Wedding Portrait: Sarah

I love photographing beautiful brides.  It has been my great fortune to have very beautiful clients so it is always a pleasure for me to share their photos.

As a wedding photographer it is always helpful to visit a location before the wedding day.  That is not always feasible.  So when Sarah and Jamal invited me to visit the Midtown Loft I was uber excited.  While walking around the space I envisioned numerous photos.  This photo below of Sarah was one of them.

Wedding Portait: Empire State Groom

From the moment I found out I would be photographing Sarah and Jamal's wedding at the Midtown Loft I envisioned this kind of portrait.  Nothing says "New York Baller" like this.  Jamal is relaxing with a glass of wine and the Empire State Building in the background.

Wedding Portrait: Yaritza & Eric

I love photographing weddings.  Not only do I get to capture one of the most memorable moments in a person's life, I also get to dance at the reception.  LOL.

Truth be told I do love wedding receptions.  And my clients will tell you how adept I am at photographing on the dance floor while doing my own dance moves.  :)

The cool thing about Yaritza and Eric's wedding was I had the opportunity to talk with them and photograph them in my studio before the wedding.  This allowed us to build a strong repoire with each other.  So during the wedding they knew I would take care of them and provide them with excellent and amazing photos.

Which leads me to today's photo post.  After the ceremony we went to Glenn Island to take formal photos of the couple and the bridal party.  One of my favorite photos was taken in the gazebo.  Yaritza and Eric are killing it in this photo.  It makes perfect sense why they selected this photo to be a 16"x20" Gallery Wrapped Canvas for their living room.

Trini Wedding Moments

WEDDING

If you have never been to a Trini wedding you are truly missing out an amazing experience.

I have visited Trinidad at least once a year every year the past nine years. I love the people, the culture, and the land. That is why I truly "waved and hollered" throughout Miranda and Ryan's wedding reception.

Below are two photos of the bride and groom. The first one is that beautiful "I Do" moment during their Day 1 Ceremony. The second one is that "Woo-Hoo Jump and Wave" moment during the couple's First Dance.

Enjoy,
J

I will use Wedding Wednesdays to share with you those and other wedding images.

For now, enjoy this Bridal Prep photo below.

Wedding Details

WEDDING

Today I want to highlight hands as details in a wedding.

Miranda and Ryan's wedding had two individual days which my team photographed. The ceremonies of Day 1 were so beautiful I could not help but to focus on a few of those hands.

Bride's Hand

I love the intricacy of the henna on Miranda's hand.

Bride & Groom

The union of Miranda & Ryan was a beautiful thing to watch and photograph.

Prayer

I am so happy I got this shot because I love the focus on the henna and jewelry especially in the midst of prayer.

Portrait: Trini Bride

WEDDING

Wow, I had a blast photographing Miranda & Ryan's wedding this past weekend. They are a cute Trinidadian couple from New Jersey. I actually met them at the end of last year through a referral by my brother.

My frequent trips to Trinidad (an understatement) and having a best friend who is Trinidadian helped me truly understand and love the culture. This definitely helped in my conversations with Miranda and Ryan.

After hanging out and talking we decided on May to take engagement photos which look amazing. I need to share some on the blog since they are already completed.

So when it came time to shoot their two-day wedding, I brought along my friend and photographer Wilnelia Velez to work with me. All I can say is there are way too many gorgeous photos. If you have ever been to a Trini wedding you know they know how to party.

Enjoy the beauty of the lovely Miranda captured by Wilnelia.

Wedding Portrait: St Catherine of Genoa Church

WEDDING

This environmental wedding portrait was taken at the wedding ceremony of Marcia and Robinson at St Catherine of Genoa Church in New York City. I usually do not post such wide angle photos but I really enjoyed the view in this photo.

With no flash and a very high ISO I was able to capture this low to the ground perspective.

Wedding Portrait: Thank You

WEDDING

I had the joy a couple of weeks ago to photograph Celine and Philip as they exchanged wedding vows in Queens, NY. The ceremony took place at Evangel Church and the reception was at Riccardo's by the Bridge.

Excited to share their photos with family and friends, Celine and Philip chose this portrait as their "Thank You Card".

Photographers Just Want To Have Fun

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Okay so if you have seen me at a wedding you know I am all over the place. From the start I am taking photographs quickly and at various angles and locations. I take photographs of you when you choose to pose. I also take photographs of you when you do not even know I am there. Yes, I only show the ones where you look good. ;)

The other thing you will notice is while I am photographing the wedding reception I am dancing. Hip Hop, R&B, Salsa, Merengue, Electric Slide, etc. I fully enjoy photographing weddings. The dance floor is a great place to photograph as well as get my cardio in...lol.

So I finally decided to share a photo of me "going in". I was holding one of my cameras (on a sling under my suit) while the groom took my other camera from my hand to take this photo.

Bridesmaid Beauty

WEDDING

One of the last photos I took at Valerie and Joey's wedding at Perona Farms was of Elizabeth. She was one of the bridesmaids in the wedding.

This portrait is banging so I had to share it.

Urban Fine Art Fave - "Throw Your Veils In The Air"

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

The one word that encapsulates Eurice and John's wedding was Fun (also would say Dancing). People were dancing all night, even before the Bride and Groom were introduced.

I love this photo I caught of Eurice being demonstrative in her dance with her veil. It truly is an urban fine art portrait.

OMG Video (Eurice & John Engagement)

ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

Right now I am editing Eurice and John's wedding photos. It dawned on me I never shared their engagement photos in an amazing way. So of course I called up my boy Usher and we put this lil video slideshow together.

Enjoy the remix of OMG via Eurice and John.

Wedding Fave - "Tennia & Mario"

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I met Tennia a few years back at Harvest Fields Community Church in the Bronx, NY. She was involved with singing on the worship team and with the R&B/Funk group NuSoul Generation & Da Funk Factory.

While hanging out with some of my friends from Harvest, I had the opportunity to attend a hangout at Tennia's place. To this day I still joke with her about the ingenious door handle she had in one of her rooms.

Mario and Tennia were dating when I visited this hangout so I had the chance to hang with Mario. He is a funny/mellow dude.

Some time earlier this year I had a conversation with Tennia where she asked if I would be her wedding photographer. I was honored.

Since I knew some of the guests at the wedding I had even more access to intimate/candid photos of the night. The wedding was slamming. We definitely partied it up at The Social at Dunwoodie.

[Editor's note: I love photographing and dancing during the reception so it is always more enjoyable when I am doing this with people I already know.]

Congratulations to the fun and very loving newlyweds, Tennia and Mario.

Let The Wedding Be A Wedding

Yesterday I talked with one of the brides I photographed recently. One of the things she said encouraged me and made me feel like I am going in the right direction with my photography. She told me she appreciated how I let her and her new husband enjoy their wedding without constantly asking them to pose for photos throughout the reception. How I was always around snapping photos but in an organic way (without forced posing).

That was important for me to hear. I believe weddings are meant to be enjoyed. I want my brides and grooms to relish this amazing new day and let me capture the amazingness. I never want them to feel like they are a freak show in a circus being pulled in every direction to pose for photos every 30 seconds.

This photo journalistic style gives me the opportunity to capture their essence. The photos will show them really enjoying the wedding because they are so in the rhythm of the moment they are not "cheesing" for the camera. While a cousin or uncle is asking people to pose for his/her expensive camera (which they don't really know how to use), I am roaming around like a duck hunter looking for precious untainted moments. This is how I roll.

Although I was not looking for photography, God placed this in my path and I am very grateful. Next weekend will be my official sixth wedding ever done as a photographer (did about half a dozen as a Videographer). I'm excited as I see I am continuing to build/grow.

*Note - I do shoot Formal poses with Family & Bridal Party after the Ceremony. I also do posed shots with anyone during the Reception as per request or if I see an amazing shot

Urban Fine Art Fave - "Comic Book Love"

ENGAGEMENT

Here is the third inspired urban fine art portrait from the Engagement photo session with Eurice and John down in lower Manhattan.

The minute I saw the mural in the background I knew I wanted to use it to take a comic book style shot. Eurice and John were down for it so we had a playful time at this locale.

Weddings - Nelly & Josue

WEDDINGS

Photographing a wedding is both special and fun for me. Basically I am invited into a space to be up close and personal with the bride and groom, and their families. It is such an honor to share in the experience of such a sacred and familial time.

That intimacy is what I believe allows me to get such candid and precious moments. I believe it also allows me to capture that same life in the formal portraits.

Below are a few formal portraits of Nelly and Josue's Wedding.

The Beautiful People @ Adina & Trevor's Wedding

WEDDING

When Adina told me she needed a photographer for her destination wedding right outside of Tampa, Florida, I was very happy. Adina and I attended the same primary school so we go way back.

The guest list was about seventy-five people who gathered at the lovely Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. And we truly danced like nobody's business that afternoon/evening.

Check out this video to enjoy the beautiful people who were there.
