PORTRAITURE
Pastor Michael Carrion commissioned me to photograph the congregants and the service at Promised Land Covenant Church. He wanted to show how a multi-ethnic group of people in the south Bronx get down with loving their God and their community.
This is Evon on the mic definitely letting the praise flow. She clearly exemplifies the beauty of praise and worship for a loving God.

238 Beats - Ras Kass NYC Album Release Party
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY
I went to high school with the three guys who run 238 Beats. The latest event they asked me to shoot was the NYC Album Release Party for the hip-hop artist Ras Kass.
Ice T was the host for the night. There were various opening artists but the one who ripped it up was a female Canadian rapper named Eternia. Her lyric flow, her stage presence, and her control of the audience was phenomenal.
Below is a video slideshow of the night I think you will enjoy.

Urban Fine Art Fave - "HeeSun Lee"
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY
During this summer I had the opportunity to photograph more events than I have ever done before. Last summer I was just at the beginning of my professional photography venture so it has been quite enjoyable both photographing and editing photos thus far.
A couple of weeks ago I photographed Rap Fest 2010. Of all the RapFest photos I have had the pleasure to make into urban fine art pieces so far, this photo below of HeeSun Lee is my favorite. I see Strength, Grace, Focus, and Tenderness.

Real Ministry [Rap Fest Video]
EVENT VIDEOGRAPHY
While photographing a gathering of ministers/artists at the Rap Fest Fellowship, I videorecorded this prayer by Bert Bocachica. Listen to the heart of real ministry and what the Bible calls "good ground".

In 2001 and 2002 I had the privilege to videotape the RapFest concert. This year I decided to tell the story via photos.
So stay tuned as I post now and in the near future what I am calling "RapFest Treats". Check below and see some portraits from this Gospel Hip Hop Concert in the Boogie-Down Bronx called RapFest.

Fav Pic of the Week - 5/4/10
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY
Two weeks ago I ventured out to Jamaica, Queens to photograph the "Sabor de Cultura" event sponsored by the Latin Caucus at York College. Michel Hodge, on staff with York, brought me in as the photographer for the event.
In a short time I will post up the numerous photos I took of this creative and fun filled celebration. For now I will share with you one of my favorite photos from the event. Here are Trisha and Mally in a portrait I call "Latin Caucus Divas".

238 Beats - Sadat X Album Release Party
EVENTS
Last month I received the call regarding photographing the Sadat X Album Release Party in midtown Manhattan. For those of you who do not know Hip Hop, Sadat X is one of the three members of Brand Nubians (along with Grand Puba and Lord Jamar). So it definitely was a night of classic and new Hip Hop.
The energy at Taj was electric as various performers took the stage to support the new album "Wild Comboys 2".
Big shout-outs to Larry, Chris, & DJ Sureshot from 238Beats. They did the promotion for the event and hooked me up with the gig.
Enjoy some of the pics:

Destination
PHOTOGRAPHY
So I'm in Tampa right now. I flew out here to photograph my first destination wedding. I decided to arrive early so I can rest in the warm weather today as the wedding is tomorrow.
I really need it as last night I was photographing a social event/film screening at the Hispanic Federation in New York City. As a freelance photographer, the photo assignment was nice and low key. The film "Entre Nos" was good. And I even bumped in to some friends, one which happened to be the co-director of the film.
Interestingly enough this time last year professional photography was not even a thought in my mind. In Jan '09 I was designing a leadership curriculum to teach young adults (City of Truth) and an acting curriculum to teach an introductory acting course to adults and teens.
It's now Jan '10 and I have been shooting photography professionally for 10 months...lol. God is amazing on how He leads us down paths we never anticipated and in ways that only He can establish.
In these past ten months I photographed three weddings. I had to turn down four other weddings because my schedule was full on those days. I photographed two sweet sixteens and one birthday party. I photographed two Family Reunions, two Family Portraits and two different musical artists portraits. I photographed seven model portraits, one actor headshot, and one Alter-Ego photo shoot. And I'm just getting started. :0)
Stay with me for the ride in 2010.

Entrepreneurial
Starting a photography business has been really interesting. One of the many conversations in my head is how do I articulate my style of photography. There are so many styles and I enjoy many of them. I like Street Photography, Event Photography, Portrait Photography, Wedding Photography, and Actor/Model Headshot Photography. The one constant in all of these is...people. So from now on I'm just gonna say I do People Photography. :0)
I also see I enjoy using the urban landscape as my backdrop. Growing up in New York City, in the Bronx, has really given me an appreciation for the rich texture of the urban setting. Most of my writing is in an urban context so it comes as no surprise that my visual writing in photography is the same.
Photographers in New York are everywhere. I thank God for making room for me in this biz.
More chronicles of an entrepreneur to come. Stay tuned.
