Portrait: Jazmine In The Zone

PORTRAITURE

Jazmine loves music. So every once in a while I would deliberately switch up the music I was playing knowing that she was not ready for that new song. The passion and excitement to that new song showed up on her face every time.

In this portrait Jazmine is in a zone with the music. I had the privilege to catch her vibin' in the zone.

Portrait: Fashion Diva Jazmine

PORTRAITURE

Even though Jazmine had no formal experience as a model, she was great during this photo shoot.

A natural beauty, Jazmine looks amazing in this fashion portrait. Classy, sexy, and full of confidence. This is the urban latina experience.

New Intro to Photography Class - March 19th

WORKSHOP

Starting this Saturday, March 19th (and continuing on the 26th and April 2nd), I will be teaching an Introduction to Photography workshop from 11AM to 12:30PM at the Studio in Harlem (125th St & 5th Ave). This Workshop includes DSLRs and Point & Shoot cameras.

I find many people have cameras but they do not understand them nor do they understand how to maximize their use. Because of this a class has been developed to get you educated, confident, and excited to have fun with your camera.

In Class #1 we will focus on the philosophy of photography. Class #2 we will focus on the technical elements of photography. During our last class (#3) we will focus on the aesthetics of photography.

Total Investment for all three classes is $50.

Maximum class size for is 12 people so reserve your seat now via email at josephdominickphotography@gmail.com.

New Studio. New Year. New Classes. (Updated)

WORKSHOPS

There are now two different classes I will be teaching for January 2011. There will be a Photography Workshop on Saturday Mornings and an Acting Workshop on Thursday Evenings.

Let me explain. We originally had the Photography Workshop scheduled for Thursday Evenings but now that has been switched. Starting January 8th and continuing on the 15th and 22nd, there will be an Introduction to Photography workshop from 10:30AM to 12:30PM at the Studio in Harlem (125th St & 5th Ave). This Workshop includes Point & Shoot cameras as well as DSLRs. Total Investment with JDP2011 promo code = $45.

Thursday Evenings starting January 6th there will be a 12 Week Acting Workshop. Classes are from 7PM to 8:30PM at the Studio in Harlem. The Workshop continues until April 14th (no class on Jan 27th, Feb 3rd & 10th). Each class is $15 with a total investment = $180.

Maximum class size for both workshops is 12 people so reserve your seat now via email at josephdominickphotography@gmail.com. Payment plan is available.

Happy New Year!

Can I Kick It?

By purchasing a 3 light strobe kit and seamless white background, today I am definitely kicking it. And kicking it hard (I hope).

I have been meaning to upgrade my mini studio with a white backdrop for a while. With the summer weather basically gone in the NYC, I need a space where I can control the light and the room temperature. Portrait sessions in the cold are not always the most enjoyable time in the winter months. Clients want a warm space too.

This new upgrade will also extend my creative work. Now I can explore new lighting schemes as most of my work to date has been with an on-camera flash.

I am believing it is going to be a warm winter. :)

The Headshot

It was bound to happen. I posted enough pictures on Facebook for a friend of mine to ask me to shoot her headshots.

So Joseph Dominick Photography was hired. :0)

It seems she was not thrilled at all with the headshots she had recently taken. Her makeup looked caked on in the photos. The photographer's light also seemed to accentaute the thick makeup.

Unfortunately her other colleagues also took pictures with the same professional photographer and were not satisfied with the results either.

After reviewing what the photographer did with her and her colleagues headshots, we proceeded to review various headshots online by other photographers. This exercise in research was done to get a clear understanding of the visual palette and what this actress found pleasing in headshots. We were able to select a color scheme based directly off of the headshots she found pleasing. In our consultation I was also able to get a clear idea of how she was choosing to market herself in the acting world.

Well our photo shoot went very well. We did both in studio work and outdoor shooting.

I spoke with her this weekend and she loves the headshots I took. She loves them so much she's having a hard time selecting which ones to use. :0)

So once she makes her selection, I will post them here for your viewing.
